7 Day Kenya Safari Samburu Ol Pejeta Naivasha Masai Mara | 2 Nights Samburu National Reserve, 1 Night Ol Pejeta Conservancy, 1 Night Lake Naivasha & 2 Nights Masai Mara Game Reserve | 7 Days 6 Nights Kenya road Safaris | 7 Days Kenya Safaris

Maasai Mara National Reserve

This wonderful 7-day Kenya road safari is easy on your budget, and big on game viewing. The tour combines three of the most popular travel regions in Kenya – Samburu Game Reserve, Ol Pejeta Conservancy and the Maasai Mara.

It also includes a boat trip on Lake Naivasha with an experienced safari guide where you get close to hippos and wonderful bird life such as Cormorants drying their wings, Pink Backed Pelicans, Herons, colourful Kingfishers, Fish Eagles and Goliath Heron.

The safari begins with a drive to Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya. On our game drive, we may see large predators and some rare big mammals as well as some of the over 350 bird species found here.

The arid Samburu stretching along the Ewaso Nyiro River is home to elephants, large predators such as lion, leopard and cheetah, as well as the rare northern specialist species, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the beisa oryx.

We continue by road to Sweetwaters & Ol Pejeta Conservancy located in the foothills of the Aberdare Mountain Range and Mount Kenya. Spend time visiting rescued chimpanzees at Sweetwaters game ranch as well as on a game drive to find the Big Five (leopard, lion, buffalo, elephant and rhino).

Numbering nearly 40 animals, Sweetwaters provides an environment as close to their natural habitat as possible. The Conservancy is also a dedicated black rhino breeding area making it an unforgettable stopover.

Leave Ol Pejeta and travel to Lake Naivasha, a shallow lake that attracts an abundance of birds, with over 400 species recorded, as well as hippos and other animals.

You have the opportunity of taking a boat ride to the Crescent Island Game Sanctuary and getting really close to the wildlife as you take a walking safari. You may get close to a beautiful Masai giraffe or even come across the tiny dik-dik antelope as you walk through the papyrus and grasses of this tranquil haven.

From Lake Naivasha, continue by road enjoying breathtaking views over the Great Rift Valley to the famous Masai Mara.  The Mara is world-famous for the massive wildebeest herds and numerous other herbivores, such as Thompson’s gazelles, zebra, and eland, that migrate here annually.

This spectacular Wildebeest Migration, also known as the Great Migration, takes place between July and October. The abundance of migrating herbivores draws large numbers of predators, including plenty of big cats.

Large herds of elephants and buffalo also roam the acacia-studded plains, hosting an array of other grazers and predators.

It is one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy’s zebras and Beisa oryxes.

The reserve consists of hot, dry plains and scrublands fringed by mountains, including the tall Ol Olokwe Mountain. In Samburu you get the chance to encounter the traditional Samburu tribe, and gain insight into their customs and culture.

Some of the most remarkable species of the park are the Somali ostriches, long-necked gerenuk antelopes, Grevy’s zebras and Somali giraffes.

Cheetahs, elephants, lions and buffalos are frequently sighted, along with various antelopes, including striking-looking gemsbok, gazelles, waterbuck and tiny dik-diks.

Sweetwaters is Kenya’s only sanctuary for the rehabilitation of chimpanzees. Numbering nearly 40 animals, Sweetwaters provides an environment as close to their natural habitat as possible. The chimps are split into two groups separated by the Ewaso Nyiro River.

You and your family will have the opportunity to learn all about our closest relatives, as well as other African wildlife! The Conservancy is also a dedicated black rhino breeding area making it an unforgettable stopover.

In the evening we enjoy dinner and spend the night at our camp/ lodge.  Optional activities (own cost): Night game drive, guided bird walks, lion tracking (morning only), board games and library, camel rides, tree planting and water color painting.

Day 4: Ol Pejeta/ Sweetwaters – Drive to Lake Naivasha

Breakfast will be served at the lodge followed by check out. The Safari adventure today takes you to the sparkling waters of Lake Naivasha arriving at the lodge in time for lunch.

Lake Naivasha is the highest of the Great Rift Valley lakes and the second-largest freshwater lake in Kenya. The lake has no known outlet, usually a requirement for a freshwater lake, and is home to over 450 species of birds.

In the afternoon we visit Crescent Island Conservancy, a private game reserve that is either an island or a peninsula depending on the water levels of the lake. Crescent Island is separated from the mainland, so there are few predators on the island, allowing the herbivores to graze in comparative safety.

You have the opportunity to get really close to the wildlife of Crescent Island, as you take a walking safari this afternoon. Fish eagles call from the skies above, as you gently explore the island, surrounded by the smells and sounds of the African bush.

In addition to the abundant birdlife that surrounds the lake, you can also see hippo, buffalo, zebra, eland, impala, waterbuck and other grazers.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha – Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve

Kenya’s most popular and most visited game park, the Masai Mara is famous for hosting one of nature’s truly spectacular events – the Great Migration. From July to August, millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle migrate from the Serengeti, across the Tanzania border and the Mara River to reach the sweet-grass plains of Masai Mara.

The drama of the migration is heightened as predators gather to meet the massive herds of grazers with the struggle for survival unfolding before you.

In the afternoon, embark on a game drive across the plains, getting your first taste of this classical African landscape and its wild inhabitants.

Day 6: Explore Masai Mara Game Reserve

If you didn’t see all of the Big Five yesterday, keep a close watch out for the elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffalo. There is a high concentration of African lions in Masai Mara, and you may also see the black-maned lions that live here.

On the plains, the zebra, antelope, hartebeest, wildebeest and gazelles graze, always under the watchful eye of the predators who hide out under cover of the long grass, or shelter high up in acacia trees.

You’ll see the beautiful Masai giraffe browsing on the shrubs and trees that line the rivers and hillsides. In the rivers, you could see hippos and crocodiles, as well as warthogs and buffalo on the river banks.

You’ll be amazed at the sheer number of different birds that your guide will help you identify. From large raptors including vultures to numerous water birds, there are over 470 different bird species that you may see on your wildlife safari today.
