Masai Village Visit

On this exciting 9-day safari you will visit some of Kenya’s most popular parks and reserves to see Africa’s sought-after wildlife. The tour begins and ends in Nairobi and includes a visit to Tsavo West National Park, Amboseli National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park & Masai Mara National Reserve.

The safari includes daily game viewing drives in 4×4 vehicles, safari lodge/ camp accommodation, meals, services of a professional safari driver guide and all entrance fees in the parks visited.

Begin with iconic Tsavo West National Park situated in Kenya’s southwest which offers some of the most magnificent game viewing in the world and attractions such as Africa’s big 5 –  Lion, Rhino, Elephant, Leopard and Buffalo. Other attractions include Mzima Springs, home to numerous Hippos and Crocodiles.

Next, drive to the nearby Amboseli National Park, Kenya’s second most popular park, after the world-famous Masai Mara. Amboseli hosts some of Kenya’s largest Elephant herds and is famous for its big Elephant bulls with their impressive tusks.

Amboseli is considered one of the top game parks in Africa to get up close to elephants in the wild, as well as offering some of the finest photographic opportunities of wildlife flanked by the scenic Mt Kilimanjaro.

The park also contains huge populations of Buffalo, Zebra, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Hippo, Impala, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Jackal, Warthogs and various other wildlife.

Leave Amboseli and travel back to Nairobi for lunch at an upscale restaurant before proceeding to the cooler Aberdare National Park,  our next game-viewing destination. Watch the animals that frequently visit the lively waterhole beside the lodge (Ark Tree Lodge or the Treetops Hotel), from a series of viewing decks and areas at different levels.

Animals easily observed in the park include; the Black Rhino, Leopard, Baboon, Black and White Colobus Monkey and Sykes Monkey. Rare sightings include those of Lions, the golden cat and the Bongo – an elusive forest antelope that lives in the bamboo forest. Bird viewing is rewarding, with over 250 species of birds in the park.

We then move on to Lake Nakuru National Park, known as an important wildlife sanctuary for some of Africa’s endangered species, especially black and white Rhinos, and Rothschild Giraffes. It is also home to Cape Buffalo, Lions, Zebra, Eland, Waterbuck, Monkeys, Warthogs and Baboons.

The journey continues by road to the world-famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, our next game-viewing destination in Kenya. The Mara is home to the richest concentration of wildlife, including the “Big Five”, Zebras, Antelope, Gnus, Oribis, Hyenas, Giraffes, Warthogs, Gazelles, Hartebeests, Hippos, Crocodiles and others.

The ultimate wildlife action here is without a doubt the annual wildebeest migration, known as the Great Migration, in July and August when millions of these grazers move north from the Serengeti, in search of lusher grass, before turning south again in October.

Optional hot-air balloon trips offer an entirely outstanding way of surveying the Savannah plains teeming with wildlife. These Masai Mara balloon trips can be arranged at extra cost. Optional visits to local Maasai villages can also be arranged with your guide.

Day 8: Explore Masai Mara National Reserve

The whole of today is set aside for game viewing in Kenya’s finest wildlife park, the Masai Mara National Reserve. Our morning and afternoon game drives take us in search of Africa’s Big Five and the array of other wild animals inhabiting this vast Kenyan game reserve. On clear days, the Mara offers fantastic orange-tinged sunsets that make for spectacular photos.

The Mara Reserve covers 1510 km² of incredible wide-open landscapes and fertile riverine woodlands, following the winding meanders of the Mara and Talek rivers in southwest Kenya. One glimpse is enough to explain its appeal; it is the epitome of open African savannahs, hosting a mass of amazing wildlife.

The Masai Mara is home to Masai Giraffe, Baboon, Warthog, Bat-eared Fox, Grey Jackal, spotted Hyena, Topis, Impala, Hartebeest, Wildebeest, Elephant, Buffalo, Zebras and Hippos. It is also common to see lions either basking after a heavy meal or surveying the plains for their next meal. Cheetahs and Leopards are harder to spot but reasonably common.

The ultimate wildlife action here is without a doubt the annual wildebeest migration, known as the Great Migration, in July and August when millions of these grazers move north from the Serengeti, in search of lusher grass, before turning south again in October.

The mass of hoofed animals, in turn, attracts the predators of Masai Mara – Lion, Cheetah, Jackal, Hyena, Wild Dog and Vultures.

The optional hot-air balloon trips offer an entirely outstanding way of surveying the savannah plains teeming with wildlife. These Masai Mara balloon trips can be arranged at extra cost. Optional visits to local Maasai villages can also be arranged with your guide.
